A Day at Our Retreat in Morocco

A Day at Our Retreat in Morocco

We always start the day with morning yoga. Still a little sleepy, by the crackling fire in the riad’s quiet courtyard, we gradually wake up our minds, warming and strengthening the body. Outside, Marrakech slowly stirs to life, while you, wrapped in the calm of the morning, ease into the day slowly and mindfully.

Next, a Moroccan breakfast awaits, already laid out for you: fluffy omelets, fresh baguette, the iconic pancakes with jams baked by Fatima, aromatic Moroccan tea and coffee, and freshly squeezed juice. The scents of spices and mint tea drift over the terrace, where you begin the day together as a group.

After breakfast, if it’s a free day, you can head out to wander the winding alleys of the medina and shop at fragrant, colorful stalls full of spices, textiles, and handicrafts. You can also visit one of Marrakech’s many hidden little museums, or simply soak up the sun on loungers on the roof of our riad, with views over the city’s rooftops and the distant hills.

If it’s an excursion day, an adventure awaits us in the breathtaking, majestic Atlas Mountains. A visit to a women’s cooperative producing argan oil, a two-hour hike each way to a waterfall with jaw-dropping views, and lunch by the river, in the shade of the trees, far from the bustle of the city. Or perhaps that day we head to the iconic Yves Saint Laurent gardens, full of bamboo, color, and quiet. Whichever option we choose, one thing is certain: it will be an exotic day packed with unforgettable moments.

In the evening, a calming yoga session awaits: to stretch, unwind, and quiet the mind. On the rooftop, above the roofs of Marrakech, right as the muezzins’ calls to evening prayer ring out across the city. An unforgettable experience that stays with you long after you’re back home. After yoga, if you feel like relaxing, aromatic tea, cushion-covered Moroccan sofas, and chats with the other girls late into the evening await you. And if you’re craving some of the most delicious flavors this corner of the world has to offer, everything is within easy reach: restaurants just a few minutes’ walk from our home base (I’ll send you our full list of recommended, tried-and-tested spots, where we ourselves have eaten more times than we can count).
